Week 2 Info

WEEK 2

Baby and Body: During the last week an increase in the amount of estrogen and progesterone in your bloodstream caused your uterus to form a lush, blood-rich lining of tissue to support a potential fertilized egg At the same time, eggs were ripening in your ovaries. At some point during this week, often around day 14 in a 28 day cycle, the egg will erupt from a fluid filled sac called a follicle This egg will then be swept up by the end of the fallopian tube where it will, hopefully, be fertilized by one of the, on average, 250 million sperm that are heading its way You may have been using and ovulation predictor kit or have calculated your average cycle length to time you intercourse as we discussed last week and this will have increased you odds of getting the guys there at the optimal time.

Over the next 30 hours, if fertilization occurred, the genetic material of the sperm and egg will merge This is where the sex of your future child will be determined If the sperm carries a Y chromosome your baby will be a boy and if it carries an X chromosome it will be a girl The cells of this early embryo begin to divide as it travels through the fallopian tube It can take about 5 days for these dividing cells to reach the uterine cavity.

Continue practicing your good behaviors by getting light to moderate exercise 3-5 days a week, avoid alcohol and caffeine until your period starts and especially if you get a positive urine pregnancy test, and take your prenatal vitamins.
