So, summer vacation is FINALLY here and I think I might be more excited than the kids this year. I honestly have been counting the days since January, not sure why but I just have.
The first weekend of summer break has been spent at lacrosse games (three yesterday alone), golf lessons and graduation parties. it's been great.
Monday will be the first true test, you see it takes my boys about two weeks of being together nonstop to figure out how to get along. So needless to say, the first two weeks for me are not so fun. We live on acreage so I have the advantage of making them go run a lap around the property when they can not get along. They usually start out racing and then my younger one will not only catch up but will pass my older one which results in the older one yelling "wait up for me" which the younger one does. As soon as they are side by side they are talking (about what I don't know or care) and then they are playing together nicely, until the next fight. I finally figured out this technique last summer and it works like a dream.
My most favorite part about summer is having NO ROUTINE !!!! I love getting up in the morning, asking the kids what they want to do for the day and then running out and doing it. We go to the beach, we go hiking, we go exploring areas of the city we have never seen, and sometimes we just hang out and have friends over.
So, if your kids are not out of school yet, hang on it is just right around the corner. This summer go out and create memories, don't forget your camera, and have the summers your kids will look back on as adults and say "man, those were the best times."
