We have a vintage glass jar next to our washer and dryer. It holds the lost and found treasures that live in the laundry. Change, keys, buttons and the random Chuck E. Cheese token is usually as exciting as the collection gets. That is until today. Today there was a note from a boy to my daughter. Ugh! She is in the sixth grade and the prettiest girl in the world (biased, I know). My Mom was not a snoop and raised me to appreciate and respect the privacy of others but it was killllling me not to read it. She is at school and no one is home, I thought. Then I thought it could contain valuable information about her health or safety, and therefore my JOB to read it. Though I knew I was full of "compost". So I simply put it in the glass jar and went on with my business. When I picked her up from school one of the first things she said is that she lost a letter a boy gave her and she was worried someone at school would find it. She told me how she looked everywhere and was freaking out. "It's in the laundry room and NO I didn't read it," I said. Kaden smiled and looked very relieved. "I wouldn't of cared if you did, but thanks Mom". That moment was worth the stress of the day and reminded me how important trust is in any relationship, but especially with family members. It also reminded my daughter to empty her pockets before putting her clothes in the wash. A win-win!
