As I sit here waiting for my scanner to scan a picture the word "patience" comes to mind as I am about ready to throw the thing out the window (or at least hit "cancel"). Patience is something we talk a lot about in this house. Being patient with life, with others and with yourself.
My (now) eight year old has zero patience for anything ! When he wants it he actually feels like he wanted it 10 minutes ago and he is still waiting. He is a boy with a very sweet demeanor but man, he wants everything NOW ! I usually respond with "one moment" instead of "what" because that just makes more conversation AND MORE WAITING on his part. But he is getting smarter and responds to my "one moment" with "you mean one hour". So he waits.
I try and control my responses (when my kids around) to things like driving behind someone going 15 miles under the speed limit, waiting forever in traffic or at red lights or even to clerks in the stores new to their job and screwing things up 4 times before getting it right. Your kids are listening to every word you say and not only listening they are learning how to react to "life" through you. Scary I know ! Not to say I am perfect because believe me I am the mom of a once four year old who yelled " a**hole" to a car who was out for a leisurely Sunday drive. Now, those are the memories we cherish !
So, teach your kids patience and life will be much easier on them. Now, I am off to hit "cancel" on my scanner, what the heck.....my kids aren't around !
