So, there was no school on Friday which I found out Thursday ! I am usually up on these things but I had a few things going on during the week which took my focus away from my schedule. So, here I am at school Thursday when a mom innocently says "what are you guys doing tomorrow?" As I am thinking, this woman has lost her mind I simply reply "um, going to school". She then says those four words which takes me to panic mode "there's no school tomorrow". Okay, the panic sets in because I am a planner and if I had known we were out of school I would have made plans to leave town for a three day weekend or something. So, as I am letting the "four little words" settle into my head I pretty much scare the woman I am talking to by asking in a very over zealous voice " do you want to bring your boys over to play". Ahhhh, calmness comes over me as she agrees. You see I am the mom who would rather have 6 boys at my house than my 2 telling me how bored they are all day long. So, we make plans to have them come over and play. Perfect ! That takes care of Friday!
We decided Saturday to go and see Avatar as a family, the only problem was everything was sold out and we had to go to a early evening showing. This usually is not a big deal except I knew my 8 year old would fall asleep which makes for a pretty expensive nap, you know the cost to get into the show and then all the snacks he eats before the nap. He would never fall asleep before the snacking because that would make me happy. We used to go and see the Lumberjax lacrosse games when they were in Portland, my youngest would fall asleep at every game after half-time, became kind of a family joke. But the real joke was on me at one game. Picture this, I am sitting there front row with a seven year old strung across my lap with his jacket over his upper body and face (he is one who buries himself under the covers too). Not a big deal, right ? Well, all of a sudden my oldest says "hey mom, you are on the big screen", you know the screen where everyone in the Rose Gardens can see you. I was like "that's cool", ummmm cool until I look at it and my husband says "it looks like you are nursing a seven year old " I freaked out, threw him off my lap into the seat beside me and was totally red from embarrassment. At least at Avatar it was in the dark without a big screen, so there he slept strung across my lap, again.
Sunday brought just hanging out and getting ready for the upcoming week. My youngest did however come inside with a caterpillar, and filled up a bowl of water to see if it could swim. He has had this fascination with caterpillars for a few years now. Last summer I found two of them in his shorts pockets as I was doing laundry, he begged me to let him keep them in the house. I explained to him they needed to live outside in nature so they could do their job, he took them back outside. A few days later I was driving him to a party and said "hey, do you think the caterpillars are happy", he answered "let me check". He then pulled out a plastic Easter egg from his pocket, opened it, looked inside and said "they look pretty happy to me! "
I can honestly say parenthood is full of laughs, free entertainment and lots of things to blog about. Enjoy ALL of it !!!!!
